Revived events plaza fit for the Fair

The Marin Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium (VMA) site sits within the Marin Center complex adjacent to the historic Frank Lloyd Wright designed Marin County Civic Center. According to conceptual imagery developed by Taliesin West for the Marin Center in 1959, “Frank Lloyd Wright had originally envisioned the Civic Center as a ‘good time place’ which could be used year-round by Marin County residents for cultural and recreational activities.” The space supports a variety of events including performing arts, festivals, the Farmers Market, and the Marin County Fair. Our project focused on creating a plaza for gathering during cultural events, providing enhanced accessible pedestrian connections from the nearby SMART train station to the VMA, and celebrating remembrance by improving access to the existing Veterans' War Memorial. Additionally, we worked with the Cultural Services Department to include space for future art opportunities within the plaza spaces.
