Rooftop Escape

1001 Van Ness is a new senior living building located in San Francisco’s Cathedral Hill neighborhood. The 13-story building includes 215 units and will replace the former and currently vacant KRON4 News headquarters.

The building includes ~7,000 SF of ground floor retail along Van Ness Avenue for a lively and active streetscape along the future Van Ness Transit Corridor. On the other side of the lot, the architecture and landscape break into a finer texture along Myrtle Street to integrate with the existing historic Myrtle Flats townhomes. The streetscape on each facade includes a suite of improvements including  hardscape, lighting, and site furnishings to create clear building thresholds and a cohesive pedestrian experience across the site’s varied sloped streets.

Through careful use of setbacks and carving out the building’s mass, a series of landscape courtyards, promenades, terraces, and a pool deck create a sequence of open spaces to cultivate active senior living & community building.
